Every Week – JRC is pleased to promote the “Keep Moving” Exercise class for men and women instructed by Vicki Hand! Vicki has an extensive background in Exercise Therapy and she will keep everyone inspired! The class will begin meeting weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. The fee is $1.00 per session and your first class will be free. This specific exercise will help everyone improve and increase their Range of Motion, Flexibility, Coordination, Balance, Blood Circulation and their Sense of Humor! We will have lots of fun! We will be exercising to music and the movements can be adapted to any age! Join us in the Community Room at JR Clarke!
Every Week – A Crafter’s Delight is to be “Together!” Each and every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., JR Clarke will host, what we will call the “Crafter’s Delight workshop “Crafting Together!” If you enjoy a specific craft, such as knitting, embroidery, crochet, quilting, quilling, stamping, scrapbooking or anything you else you like, then this evening if for you! All crafters arrive around 6:30 pm and stay till about 8:00 pm when the library closes! You can talk and share to your “heart’s content!” Everyone is welcome! Meet some new friends! The library will be closed on holidays. If you have any questions, contact the circulation desk at 937-473-2226! Water is available for purchase and you can bring your own snacks!
Friday, January 24 – Levi Smith will be back for the third session of his Microsoft Office© Excel© class on January 24 beginning at 3:00 p.m. Even if you are a beginner, bring your laptop and let Levi Smith help you become a proficient and confident user of Excel©. Monday, January 27 – JR Clarke Library will hold its monthly Lego Landing Club beginning at 3:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Your creations will be displayed during the following month. There will be different themes for different months or events! Watch out for our Lego Landing Competition Date!
Tuesday, January 28 – JR Clarke is blessed to have retired teacher Laurie Deubner as our StoryTime teacher. Sherry Angle assists her. Every Tuesday morning there are two classes: 9:00 am and 10:00 am. There is normally a theme and activities planned for a month’s period of time. Tuesday, January 28 – Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, JR Clarke will be presenting a STEAM homeschooling program and instruction in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math. Each session will be from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm. Retired Covington educator, Laurie Deubner (Miami County Park District staff and Science Guru) and James Courts (Degree in Engineering, STEAM Aficionado and the husband of JRC staff librarian, Charity Courts) will be heading up the instruction and we are looking for lots of fun, excitement and discovery! Tuesday, January 28 – Monthly meeting of the JR Clarke Friends and Volunteers of J.R. Clarke Public Library will be held in the JR Clarke Alcove at 1:00 p.m. We will be discussing manning the Historical Room once a week for all patrons, training on the SCANPro 3000 Digital Scanner for Genealogy, films, slides, microfilm, microfiche, and our Spring Book Sale.
Tuesday, January 28 – Local Author, Larry Hamilton, to speak at J.R. Clarke Public Library. JR Clarke Library presents local author, Larry Hamilton, from Piqua, OH. Mr. Hamilton has written a three-book historical fiction series, which begins with the novel, Lucy’s Story: Right Choices with Wrongs Still Left. He will be with us at J.R. Clarke Public Library on Tuesday, January 28 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Larry has such a passion for teaching Black History as a means to promote a cultural understanding of our “INCLUSIVE HISTORICAL HERITAGE!” This program is a wonderful way in which to celebrate Black History Month. He will be sharing his proposal for The Randolph & McCulloch Freedom’s Struggle Complex, located at 655 N. Main Street in Piqua. He is so interesting and will discuss the topic “WHOSE we are matters WHO we are!” The program will take place in the Community Room of J.R. Clarke Public Library. Light Refreshments will be served. Saturday, February 1 – Aromatherapy Bracelet Make & Take at JR Clarke – Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Robbin Adams, Registered Nurse and JRP Staff Member will be teaching how essential oils can benefit you daily. Bring a friend – make your own original beaded bracelet to wear with essential oils to enhance your mood, emotions, health and well-being. The program will be held on Saturday, February 1st. From 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Robbin will give a great overview of using a variety of essential oils on these topics. The “Make-Your-Own” beaded bracelet will be $8.00 per person. Thursday, February 6 – The first Thursday of every month, Library Director, Cherie Roeth will hold a class on how to use some of the databases that are FREE to all patrons of the library. We will also be going over the COOL Library App and how to Download Digital Resources (E-books, etc.), Genealogy Sites, etc. The session will be at 1:00 p.m. Sign-up is mandatory for this workshop by the Wednesday before. If there is enough interest for an evening class, one will be held at 6:00 p.m. on the same date. Bring along your cell phone and/or laptop!
Friday, February 7 – Become a CELL PHONE Aficionado – Questions and Answers! You will learn more every time you come to one of Levi’s workshops on how to use your cell phone to make your life easier and more functional! Levi will be presenting this workshop monthly.
